In Japan, a “multiple dependent claim” which selectively refers to two or more claims, and a “multiple-multiple dependent claim”, which is a multiple dependent claim selectively referring to two or more multiple dependent claims in a patent application or utility model registration application has been accepted.  However, a multiple-multiple dependent claim is no longer accepted, under the revision of Enforcement of Regulations under the Patent Act and Enforcement of Regulations under the Utility Model Act.  If a patent application or utility model registration application filed on and after April 1, 2022 includes a multiple-multiple dependent claim, the reason for rejection will be notified to the patent applicant, or the order to amend will be notified to the utility model applicant.  Note that a “multiple dependent claim” in a patent application or utility model registration application filed on and after April 1, 2022 is still accepted.
